How Do I Setup Text Messages?
Enter your phone number in the 'Text Message’ section of the Sounds & Delivery option in your Settings. In addition, you can specify what should occur when you click the link provided in text messages:
1) Prompt me to accept the job: If you choose this setting, then you’ll first be prompted asking if you want the job. Then if you click ‘OK,’ Sub Sidekick will attempt to accept the job for you. If you click ‘Cancel’ then you will be logged into your substitute-service account where you can view all available jobs and their details.
2) Automatically accept the job: If you choose this option it means once you click the link, Sub Sidekick will immediately attempt to accept the job for you. Remember, you'll still be able to see the basic details of the job in the text to help you decide if you want it, it just means that once you click the link, we'll try and get the job for you right then instead of having to prompt you further.
3) Show me the job information: Lastly, if you choose this setting, then when you click the link, it will take you to your substitute-service account so you can view the job there.
Should I Use Text Messages or App Push Notifications?
When setting up a trial or subscription, you will have the option to choose the 2 ways you'd like to receive alerts:
- Text messages & Email alerts
- App Notifications & Email alerts
It is really a matter of personal preference whether you want to receive alerts on our App or via Text Messages. The good news is you can try out both and switch at any time within the Settings tab and Sounds & Delivery option. If you would like to enable text messages, add your phone number to the Text Message section. To disable text messages, remove your number from the Text Message section.
There are many benefits to using the App instead of relying on text messages. With the app, you can view an active list of available jobs in both List and Calendar formats. In addition, you can accept jobs directly from there and from push-notifications. If you are concerned with speed, the push notifications to the app are faster than text messages. Text message alerts will also come to you with a link for you to accept the job directly, but then of course there is no available jobs list or calendar to reference.
The other benefit of the app is that there is no limit to how many alerts you can receive. With text messages, if you happen to receive more than 20 text messages a day consistently for more than 2 weeks, our system will ask you to add filters to your account to reduce text volume (since that many texts does cost us more than what the monthly fee covers). However, if you don't usually receive that many alerts, then that might not need to be a consideration for you.
Can I Get Text Messages To Multiple Phone Numbers?
Sub Sidekick can only provide reliable text messages for one cell phone number and emails for one email address. If you are willing to sacrifice your email alert for another text message alert, then this is possible. But, the speed and reliability of this alternative is not as good. For example, let's say that we have the following two cell phone numbers:
Phone Number (Carrier)
123-123-1234 (AT&T)
321-321-4321 (Verizon)
Look-up your carrier in this list: SMS Gateways. Determine what the email gateway is for your cell phone carrier.
Next, for this example, you would enter in the Sounds & Delivery section of your SubSidekick Settings:
Phone Number: 123-123-1234
Email: 3213214321@vtext.com
OR
Phone Number: 321-321-4321
Email: 1231231234@txt.att.net
